Review: The Lawn at Biopolis

What?! A salad place? My god! Let's see how long they can sustain... This was what I exclaimed when it took over 7-11 a few months back. Now, I'm taking back my words. The lawn has been innovative with their menus and they venture into different rice dishes as well as light teatime snacks. The latest product brought in by them is the highly raved tiramisu hero.

Hate salads?! Don't worry, Me too! But this place will change your perception of salads
entirely. Their meat and seafood that comes with their salad dishes are fantasic.
There are also many different dressings that you can choose from.

Tiramisu Hero
We were there on a rainy late afternoon and ordered their tea time set which consists of a soup ( it is a tiny cup but it is awesome goodness) and a heated bun for $2.

Soup of the Day: Mushroom Soup. Although it looks disgusting, this is great stuff!

Ice-cream swiss rolls. They ran out of buns so got these as a replacement. Fluffy chiffon sponge cake with vanilla ice-cream. Refreshing!

Review: Long Black Cafe at Biopolis

This is possibly the most decent restaurant that one could find in Biopolis. It serves western cuisine at affordable prices and has 3 tables indoors and around 20 tables outdoors. Calling all coffee lovers, this place makes awesome coffee that with their customised Mirage Veloce espresso machine.
They do have a set lunch menu which changes every 2 to 3 weeks. Top up of $3.90 to any main course  will also entitles to coffee/tea/lemon tea and a soup of the day.

This is the place to go if you need to meet clients, a casual 'bonding' session with colleagues or need a quiet place around Buona Vista. However, do note that they are closed on weekends and after 8pm on weekdays.

Lunch set menu for Jan 2013

Waffle with coffee or tea, only available from 2pm - 6pm

Latte

Lemon Tea that comes with the set meal. Seasonal drink for
set lunch is lychee with basil leaves which is sounds interesting but
personally I don't fancy basil so I didn't take that.

Review: Morganfield's at Star Vista

Nestled in the latest shopping mall, Star Vista aka 'the eating mall' (that's what I called it since it is full of resturants), Morganfield's has been a place that I have always wanted to try. Was there on a weekday to takeaway lunch. The restaurant wasn't very crowded hence service was fast. Morganfield's offers set meals for lunch in the afternoon and I find it value for money given the portion size and quality of food provided. So go on and take a look!
Would I come back again? Yes

Entrance of Morganfield's
Their signature wood-smoked ribs

Drinks anyone?

History

Indoor seating with greenery view

Outdoor seats remind me of the school canteen but this
great for large group gatherings

Set lunch includes a soup or salad and unlimited flow of drinks
Meat and Seafood

Their signature ribs and burgers

This is my takeaway box! Black Pepper Chicken Chop!
They are very considerate to wrap the chicken chop in aluminium foil and
the sauce in a separate container so that the fries would not be soft due
to the sauce. This is my ideal takeaway box. Some places just dumped
everything together in a box and it is a gruesome mess when I opened it.

Chicken is tender and juicy

Colesaw and soup nicely packed in containers

Review: Food for thought (Botanic Gardens)

Amazed at the number of people that was there on a rainy Saturday afternoon. It is almost full house at 2pm. The place is nice and cosy with long benches for larger groups and square tables for groups of 4 and below. However, this is definitely not the place to go if you need some peace and quiet. It reminds me of a school canteen during recess only that it is now replaced with kids running around and girls giggling away. Well.. I admit that i'm contributing to the sound pollution too! Maybe it might not be that bad on weekdays?!

Food-wise, it is disappointing. It is affordable but I think Macdonalds big breakfast do a better job. Eggs are a little dry and tasteless. Bacon is not too bad and portion size justified the price paid. Bread is hard and I only discovered the butter and jams at the counter halfway through eating it plainly. Would appreciate it a lot better if the waitress could alert us about the jams which is located at a far corner from where we are sitting.

Additional add-ons, mushrooms, hash browns and chicken sausages did a lot more justice as compared. Mushrooms are flavorful and hash browns are crispy on the surface and fluffy inside. This is a MUST try when you come here!

Review: Bella Pasta at Robertson Quay

Was here on a saturday night to celebrate my friend's birthday. We sat indoors seat ordered a seafood platter for two and one seafood linguine with king prawns and scallops to share within three of us.

The portion was small with only 2 'king' prawns (well.. they are kinda small), 2 scallops, 4 to 5 asparagus and 2 portions of squid.
I find that the seafood are a little overcooked and lacking in flavour.
Priced at $80, this is definitely not worth the money.

Portion was small, with two tiny 'king' prawns. Linguine was well-cooked with the correct texture however the sauce was nothing extraordinary.
Priced at $33, this is also not worth the price.

Would I go back again?
No. Normal food at extraordinary prices. Ambience and service were good but it didn't justify as a reason to go back.
